Medborgarskapsprovet — the Swedish citizenship test
Medborgarskapsprovet is the Swedish citizenship test: a written test of knowledge about Swedish society that applicants for Swedish citizenship are required to pass. It is arranged by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), taken in Swedish, and consists of 60 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 90 minutes.
Why the test exists
The test was introduced as part of a broader reform of the requirements for Swedish citizenship. The purpose is that people who become Swedish citizens should have a basic understanding of how Swedish society works — democracy, rights and obligations, and the institutions that affect daily life.
The known format
- 60 multiple-choice questions, four alternatives, one correct answer.
- 90 minutes of writing time.
- No negative marking for wrong answers.
- Questions are written in Swedish; the test is taken on paper at a test centre.
- Difficulty is roughly at the level of Swedish compulsory school year 9.
The pass threshold is decided by the organiser and should not be treated as confirmed until UHR publishes it. Always check the official pages before booking.

Each topic page below explains the subject and gives worked example questions with answers and explanations. They are free to read without an account.
How to prepare
Read the official study material, then test yourself under realistic conditions. Most people fail practice tests not because the facts are hard, but because 90 seconds per question in Swedish is faster than it sounds. Work topic by topic, then rehearse with a full 60-question mock test.
What svenskpass provides
svenskpass is an independent preparation platform. We provide practice questions written in the style of the official test, full 60-question mock exams with a 90-minute timer, topic-based training, explanations in Swedish, and progress tracking that shows your weakest topics.
Official information vs. svenskpass material
- Official: rules, booking, fees, format and results — published by UHR and Migrationsverket.
- Candidate-reported: accounts from people who have taken the test. Useful, but not verified.
- svenskpass: our own practice questions and explanations. We do not have access to the real test questions.
