How to apply for Swedish citizenship
Applying for Swedish citizenship is done through Migrationsverket. Here is a calm, independent walkthrough of the Swedish citizenship application, from first checks to the decision letter.
Step 1 — Check the requirements

Step 2 — Gather your documents

Step 3 — Apply online at Migrationsverket
The fastest way to apply for Swedish citizenship is through Migrationsverket's e-service using Swedish e-identification. You can also apply on paper if you cannot use the online service.
Step 4 — Pay the fee
The application fee depends on your situation (adult, child, stateless person). Pay it when you submit your application, otherwise Migrationsverket may reject the case for non-payment.
Step 5 — Wait, then respond quickly
Processing times can be long. If Migrationsverket asks for extra information, respond as soon as possible so your application is not delayed further.
Step 6 — The decision
When Migrationsverket has decided, you receive a written decision. If approved, you become Swedish on the date stated in the decision and can apply for a Swedish passport and national ID card at the Swedish Police.
